When my group started working on our history presentation, I chose Aaron Burr as my topic. At first, I was very perplexed about researching him because the only thing I really knew about him was that he was the man who killed Alexander Hamilton in a duel. However, once I started researching him, I quickly realized there was so much more to his story. Even though Aaron Burr is one of the most controversial figures in American history, I genuinely enjoyed learning about him and found his life much more interesting than I expected. One of the things I liked most about researching Aaron Burr was discovering how complicated historical figures can be. It's easy to judge someone based on one famous event, but Burr's life was much bigger than his duel with Hamilton. Before that happened, he had already accomplished a lot. He fought in the American Revolution, became a successful lawyer, served in the Senate, and eventually became the third Vice President of the United States. Learning ...

One of the most fascinating aspects of the course for me was watching the changemakers' presentations. I was excited about listening to my classmates' presentations on various topics because everyone had their own way of looking at the subject matter and related it to the broader theme of individual contributions to making changes in society. We saw how various individuals contributed to shaping America through presentations that ranged from America's formation right up to the digital era. What I liked about the presentations is that they were very well organized. The first presentation provided information on the beginnings of American history and included significant individuals who contributed to the formation of the country. It was interesting for me to learn more about such personalities as Abraham Lincoln and Frederick Douglass and their contribution to American history. Abraham Lincoln's contribution is associated with the fight against slavery and saving the cou...

Dyland Rodriguez          Working on the Changemakers project was a positive experience for me. At the beginning, I felt a little nervous because group projects require communication, organization, and cooperation. However, as we worked together, I became more comfortable and confident.        My group worked well as a team by dividing the responsibilities and supporting each other throughout the project. Each member was responsible for researching and presenting a different changemaker, which helped us stay organized and ensured that everyone contributed equally. We communicated regularly, shared ideas, and helped each other when needed.        My role was to research and present information about Thomas Jefferson. I learned a lot about his contributions and how his actions influenced American history. Preparing my section helped me improve my research, presentation, and communication skills.     ...

Working on this group project was slightly more time-consuming and hands-on than expected. I overestimated the difficulty and assumed it would be simpler due to most of the work being divided. Because of the number of people in the group, it was harder to finish the assignment as a whole faster than you would alone. I quickly realized that a group project takes far more communication and incorporates more teaching styles. Patience and cooperation with those who need extended time are necessary. It was important to me to take other people's communication style into account and the way they contribute. When the project was first assigned, my group members and I were able to approach each subtopic with different strengths despite its complications.  We decided to divide the work amongst each other based on how much information was in each section. A great challenge we faced was dividing the work unfairly because there was more information in some subtopics than others. Some sec...

I believe that presentation and public speaking serves as an extreme benefit to the American college system. I believe that it truly prepares students for college readiness and to see growth in their academics.   In this assignment, the goal was to be split between three groups and each group built a presentation build on not only their groups and projects, but everyone else’s as well.    Our speech was based on Chapter 3, Intercultural Communication. Our presentation consisted of slides that explained the dynamics between all of the most common terms that define us today. This was not expected whatsoever, this presentation was definitely more exciting than I expected it to be.  My group displayed a very professional and engaging relationship and I’m so grateful for the group I was in. From the moment we were assigned this project, we were already speaking about each person’s role and what they might want to talk about. We were already extremely engaged from t...

I really enjoyed listening to the presentations and then writing about these topics in my own words. Hearing different people talk about anxiety, assumed similarity or difference, and ethnocentrism made me realize how often these barriers appear in my everyday life, even in small ways. I’ve definitely felt nervous when I’m in an unfamiliar cultural situation, worrying about saying or doing the wrong thing. Sometimes it’s something as simple as not knowing which greeting is appropriate or wondering if a joke I might make will seem rude. I’ve also caught myself if others think and act like I do, or on the other hand, thinking we have absolutely nothing in common when that’s not true at all. Reflecting on these issues helped me realize that I need to be more aware and intentional in how I approach people from different backgrounds, rather than relying on my first impressions or comfort zone.        Another part of this experience I loved was working ...

For this assignment, I was in group one in our group presented chapter 3 about culture and communication. Overall, I think the three groups did a great job with your presentation since this was our first presentation in our first assignment for this class. Everyone clearly put effort into preparing and researching and speaking in front of the class. Presenting can be stressful and uncomfortable for many people, but I think everyone in the groups handle this assignment very well and showed confidence while presenting.  My group worked very hard throughout the entire process. One thing I appreciate it most was that everyone stated involved in participated equally from the beginning. Everyone stayed in contact communicative about the project and helped each other Whenever necessary. Nobody was left out Every member contributed something important to the presentation. I think this was one of the main reason our presentation turned as successful, instead if only one or two people did al...
